Women in Engineering Panel Discussion
IEEE Women in Engineering (WIE) is the largest international professional organization dedicated to promoting women engineers and scientists and inspiring girls around the world to follow their interests to a career in engineering. The IEEE UFFC 2016 Women in engineering event “Success in Research” will be a panel discussion including the conference plenary speakers. The aim of the event is to provide a way for young and experienced researchers to interact and exchange ideas.
The panellists will speak about some hurdles that are commonly met when transitioning from an early stage researcher to an independent scientist. The discussion will be focused on general areas of research, such as identifying successful research directions, managing a research group, building successful collaborations, etc. An important question of interest to this particular audience is whether women and men meet the same obstacles and whether there are different strategies for women and men when building a research career.
The discussion will be led by Nazanin Bassiri-Gharb and will include panel members Elizabeth Dickey, Beatriz Noheda, Jing-Feng Li and Susan Trolier-McKinstry.
The event is scheduled to take place on Tuesday (August 23rd, 2016) from 12:30 – 13:30. Meeting point is at the foyer in the Welcome Hotel. Following the 30 minute panel discussion, food and drinks will be offered, giving the panelists and audience a chance to discuss any topics of interest in a more personal setting.
